The Gospel

The Truth That Changes Everything

"Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth." ~ John 17:17

In a world filled with competing voices, opinions, and ideas of truth, God has not left humanity without an answer.

The truth has been revealed.

The Gospel is the good news of what God has done through Jesus Christ to rescue sinners and reconcile them to Himself.

The Gospel is not a message about becoming a better person.

It is a message about being made new.

1. God: The Holy Creator and King

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." ~ Genesis 1:1

Before anything existed, God was already eternally there.

He is the Creator of all things, the source of all truth, and the rightful ruler over His creation.

God is perfectly holy, righteous, just, and good.

Everything exists for His glory.

Humanity was created in the image of God - designed to know Him, worship Him, and enjoy Him forever.

But mankind rejected God's authority.

2. Sin: Our Rebellion Against God

Sin is not simply making mistakes.

Sin is rebellion against our Creator.

From the beginning, humanity chose independence from God and trusted itself instead of trusting Him.

Because of sin, mankind is separated from God and spiritually dead.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." ~ Romans 3:23

Every person has sinned.

Every person stands guilty before a holy God.

And because God is perfectly just, sin cannot simply be ignored.

"For the wages of sin is death..." ~ Romans 6:23

Our greatest problem is not that we need to become better.

Our greatest problem is that we need to be rescued.

3. Jesus Christ: The Savior of Sinners

The good news of the Gospel is that God, in His mercy, provided the way of salvation.

Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, entered into His creation.

He lived the perfect life we could never live.

He perfectly obeyed God's law.

He was without sin.

Yet He willingly went to the cross and took the punishment sinners deserved.

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." ~ Romans 5:8

Jesus did not merely make salvation possible.

He accomplished salvation.

He bore the wrath of God in the place of His people.

He died.

He was buried.

And on the third day, He rose from the dead, defeating sin and death.

4. Salvation: By Grace Alone Through Faith Alone

We cannot save ourselves.

Our morality cannot erase our guilt.

Our good works cannot make us righteous before God.

Salvation is completely dependent on the grace of God.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God." ~ Ephesians 2:8

God saves sinners who could never save themselves.

He gives new hearts.

He opens blind eyes.

He draws His people to Christ.

All glory belongs to Him.

5. Repent and Believe

The Gospel demands a response.

Jesus proclaimed: "Repent and believe in the gospel." ~ Mark 1:15

Repentance means turning away from sin and turning toward God.

Faith means trusting completely in Jesus Christ - trusting that His righteousness is enough and His sacrifice is sufficient.

We are not saved by our works.

We are saved by Christ alone, through faith alone, by grace alone, to the glory of God alone.

6. A New Creation: The Beginning of a New Life

When God saves someone, He does not simply change their future.

He changes their heart.

The believer is forgiven, adopted, and made new.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come." ~ 2 Corinthians 5:17

The Christian life is not about trying harder to earn God's love.

It is responding to the love God has already shown through Christ.

7. The Battle With Sin: Saved, But Still Being Sanctified

Being saved does not mean a Christian becomes instantly perfect.

The believer still lives in a fallen body and continues to fight against sin.

But salvation changes our relationship with sin.

Before Christ, we loved sin and were enslaved to it.

After Christ, we hate sin and desire righteousness.

The Apostle Paul describes this struggle: "For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want." ~ Romans 7:19

The struggle with sin is not proof that God has abandoned us.

It is evidence of the battle taking place inside a heart that has been changed.

We do not fight sin to earn salvation.

We fight sin because Christ has already saved us.

8. Grace Does Not Give Us Permission To Sin

God's forgiveness is not a license to continue in rebellion.

Paul writes: "Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? May it never be!" ~ Romans 6:1-2

True grace transforms.

The person who belongs to Christ will still stumble, but they will not make peace with sin.

They repent.

They return to Christ.

They continue growing.

The Christian life is not a life of sinless perfection.

It is a life of continual repentance and dependence on Jesus.

9. Complete Forgiveness and the Security of Christ

The hope of the Gospel is that our forgiveness does not depend on our ability to be perfect.

It depends on Christ's finished work on the cross.

Jesus paid for the sins of His people completely.

Past, present, and future sins. Nothing remains unpaid.

"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." ~ Romans 8:1

Those who truly belong to Christ are held securely by Him.

"And I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand." ~ John 10:28

Our salvation rests not in our grip on God, but in God's grip on us.

10. The Hope of Glory

The Christian life is a journey of becoming more like Christ.

We still battle and struggle with sin and our flesh.

But one day Jesus will return.

Sin will be destroyed.

Death will be defeated forever.

And those who belong to Christ will dwell with Him forever.

The Gospel is not just about escaping judgement.

It is about being restored to the purpose we were created for: Knowing God, glorifying Him, and enjoying Him forever.

The Question Every Person Must Answer

When in Athens, Paul says this to the Greeks around him: "Therefore, having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now commanding men that everyone everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He determined, having furnished proof to all by raising Him from the dead." ~ Acts 17: 30-31

Jesus said: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me." ~ John 14:6

The question is not whether you will worship.

Everyone worships something.

The question is: Will you live in rebellion against your Creator, or will you surrender to Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords?

Respond To The Gospel

If God has opened your eyes to your sin and your need for Christ:

Repent from unbelief and sin.

Believe in the one and only Savior and King: Jesus Christ.

Trust in Him, who He is and what He has done.

Follow Him and place your will and life at His feet.

Not because you are trying to earn salvation.

But because Christ has already accomplished salvation for all who belong to Him.

"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." ~ Romans 10:13
